Flash the Dog is coming !

Flash the Dog!

This forthcoming title is a follow up to Topsy the Cat.

This time the story is based on Flash. Flash is our family dog. He’s a whippet we adopted from the RSPCA in Burwood Victoria.

Flash is a gentle giant and quickly became a beloved member of our family. We couldn’t imagine life without him.

Flash was very anxious when we first met him. We don’t really know his history, but whatever the case was, it left him nervous and shy. Flash was on medication to help him be calm and cope with the change of life.

He no longer takes medication and has become a very confident and loving doggy. Flash loves running around in the yard, going for walks, going for car rides, sneaking a cheeky biscuit or two when we have a cup of tea, stealing dinner left to defrost on the kitchen bench, chewing on dried pig ear snacks, and sniffing his cat friends.

Most of all, Flash loves cuddling up with us, his human friends. If you do the dishes, Flash is there lying right on your feet next to the kitchen sink cupboard. Having lunch? Flash is there lying on your feet under the table. Watching a movie? Flash is there sitting right next to you - or on your lap.

We all love Flash and he loves us too. And as much as it is sad that he was put up for adoption, we are so glad we have the chance to be his new forever family.

As part of our gratitude for Flash and the work that the RSPCA does with their animal rescue and rehabilitation work, $1 from the sale of each copy of Flash the Dog will be donated to the RSPCA in Burwood.

Stay tuned for the book release - due in April 2019

What's that Twinkle in the Sky?

Finally I have a proof copy in my hand of the next book from Frankie and Harry's Bookshelf!

This book aims to introduce kids to the concept of stars, what they are and some of the different types. I think kids are able to take in a lot more information than we sometimes give them credit for.

I love when I talk to my kids about astronomy and they love it too. The best thing is when they repeat to me what I have taught them, and then start to ask questions about space!

This is one of the reasons I decided to write a book like this ; why not introduce new scientific words into a child's vocabulary? They can take it! and the more they know, the more they want to find out.

This book has been taking shape for over about 18 months. Not only was the composition of the verses challenging (hey it's got to rhyme), but I also hand painted each page myself too.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process and I really hope you enjoy the result.

I am still tweaking the hard copy of the book but the E-pub is ready to go ! It's available in the online store for you to download onto your device. I hope to get the hard copy out very soon.

Stay stellar!

Inspiration

This is my son Frankie. He is the one who inspired me to write Topsy the Cat. He began learning to read books this year when he started his first year of school.

It was such a special moment when I opened the first batch of printed books. Frankie was so proud of me! It was even more special when Frankie picked up a copy, took it for himself and started reading it! That's when I knew my book really passed the "kids test".

Published!

Topsy the Cat is here!

I am so happy to have received my first carton of printed books!

I have to mention here the people who helped me assemble Topsy the Cat. Tim Cederwell my fantastic and talented graphic designer who designed the cover and title page text and prepared the book for printing.  My always helpful husband who helped me prepare the artwork files for assembly and my printer Nick at Eureka Printing here in Melbourne who produced such a high quality and beautiful product.

Books are now available in the online store or in the Where to Buy section. I hope you all enjoy reading and sharing Topsy the Cat as much as I have enjoyed creating.

First Book!

TOPSY THE CAT

I have been working on Topsy the Cat for the last few months and am so pleased that I will soon be able to publish it and share it with you all.

Its so exciting to soon have my first book published!

Topsy the Cat is a simple and fun picture book about Topsy and her humorous adventures. It's designed for young children (and anyone really!)

Topsy the Cat was inspired by both my young children who are learning to read and my beautiful cats at home who entertain me everyday.

Frankie my son is learning to read simple books, and while he was reading one night, the first verse for Topsy the Cat came into my mind. I wrote it down and viola! The other verses eventually followed and the book was written.

The illustrations followed in a similar way - this project is really one that has come from the heart. I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed the whole process.

Looking forward to sharing with you very soon!
